An important wetland designated by the Ministry of the Environment, this is a vast sandy mud flat covering an area of 517 hectares. It is one of the largest spawning grounds for horseshoe crabs in Japan,
and is also famous as a stopover site for migratory birds. It has long been a good fishing spot, and oyster farming is still thriving today
